Welcome to Reading Applications! This is a small group special education course designed specifically for YOU! The purpose of this class is to improve your ability to access and comprehend literature and to improve your perception and enjoyment of reading and writing in general.
How will we do this?! What are we going to be doing this semester?!
The class activities and concepts will include but is not limited to:
Novels:

True Grit—
Title? The students will vote from a variety of options on what book they want to explore for one of our units. Giving students’ choice promotes a better work ethic and student passion for literature.
Journaling (Using critical thinking skills NOT busy work). Requirement of one independent concept per week to be completed. Concept is to be determined by the student and approved by Mrs. Kubow. For example: I want to explore blackout poetry and incorporate the topic of Horse breeds. Then you would be expected to create one of these per week in your journal outside of class.
Student’s will focus on critical thinking skills to identify and recall information, organize and select facts and ideas, apply facts, analyze, evaluate, and probably the most important: Create. Students will explore these skills through reading, writing, and speaking.
Students will also be participating in a reading buddy program where students have the opportunity to mentor a student/s from the elementary school.
Other strategies learned will be but not limited to: Visual Note taking, project based and hands-on learning, Accessing text though various ways: Read and Write chrome, Bookshare, Youtube, audio books, etc.
