Middle School English Teacher Email Phone: 715-877-1072 Mrs. Herman is the seventh grade language arts and literatute teacher at the School District of Fall Creek. Since graduating in 1994 from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire, her teaching experience has been with 7th grade students as a Middle School teacher in the content areas of science, social studies, language arts, and literature. Mrs. Herman holds a Wisconsin Department of Education license in Elementary Education (grades 1-8), Physical Education and Adaptive Physical Education and a National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification as an Early Adolescent Generalist (ages 11-15).
Along with her husband and two children, Mrs. Herman lives south of Osseo. Together the family enjoys outdoor activities such as biking, running, and swimming. The Hermans are enthusiastic Green Bay Packer, Wisconsin Badger, and Milwaukee Brewer fans.

Literature 7
Literature provides students with an opportunity to explore their own thinking and learn about real-life problems and investigate solutions to problems through fiction and non-fiction stories. Student will be learning about literature through short stories, plays, poetry, non-fiction, and fiction novels throughout the seventh grade school year. Students will have short assignments and projects to promote learning concepts within each literature unit. Additionally students will be maintaining Reading Logs and preparing Book Reports on novels or texts they are reading outside the classroom.

Language Arts
Students will learn the importance of written and oral communication as well as be instructed and practice the skills in speaking and writing effectively.
Parts of Speech
Students will be instructed on the parts and structures of sentences while learning subject, predicates; nouns; verbs; adjectives and adverbs; pronouns; prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections; and clauses and complex sentences.
Composition
Students will practice and refine their writing skills while writing short pieces, timed-writing pieces, longer writing pieces to be developed over time, and reflective writing pieces. During the seventh grade school year, students will develop writing pieces including creative stories, narratives, research, compare/contrast, and persuasive writing.
Speaking/Oral Discourse
Students will have many opportunities to participate in classroom discussions. Students will practice their skills in communicating opinions and ideas on different topics, respecting others opinions, listening attentively and expounding on topics including another’s ideas and contributing own ideas, citing evidence to support opinions, seeking clarification through questions, orally summarizing, and recalling significant details in discussion.
Plagiarism/Cheating: Students must turn in their own work on assignments. If quotes or ideas are from another person/author, students must appropriately give the person credit. The concept and consequences of plagiarism/cheating will be outlined in class along with an explanation for parents to read.
