About Mr. Strand
I introduce myself as Mr. Strand, the School Counselor...but what is a School Counselor and who is Mr. Strand? You'll find out more about me on this page!
Mr. Strand the School Counselor
Most schools have teachers, principals, custodians, cooks, and school counselors. Many students know about the teachers, the principals, cooks, and even the custodians. However, many students do not know very much about the school counselors.
Try to think of a school counselor (me) as being a helper. I help students, parents, and teachers handle problems. Problems can be VERY BIG or they can be very small. Maybe you've heard of the saying "two heads are better than one." This means that a lot of the time two people can solve a problem better than one person can solve a problem. Think of me as an extra problem solver who can help you when you need it so that you can do your very best at school!
Sometimes you will see me in my office working with just one student or a group of students. When I am with students, I am helping. We all need a little help from time to time. It is ok to ask me for help! You can find out more about what it is like to meet with me in my office by clicking on the link "Working with Me" on the top of this page.
I often will come to your class and teach you lessons that help you learn more about yourself and the world around you. I usually come into your class about once every six days for 30 minutes.
I work with all students in the elementary school. That means I work with a lot of you! Most teachers in grades 4K-4 work with about 20 - 70 students in their classes each year. I get to work with 400+ students in class each year!
Mr. Strand the Person
Being a School Counselor for the School District of Fall Creek is just one part of what makes me, me! In this section, you will find some interesting facts about me!
I currently live in Eau Claire with my wife, Mrs. Strand and three kids. Before becoming a School Counselor, I was a police officer.
I like to do a lot of things in my spare time. I love to go fishing! When I fish, I use a pole called a fly-rod. A fly-rod is much longer than a regular rod. The fly-rods that I use are about 9 feet long...that's almost as tall as a basketball hoop! Not only do I fish with these rods, I make them too!
I also like to camp and hike. My current favorite campground is at Split Rock Lighthouse State Park in Minnesota. It is my favorite because it overlooks the shore of Lake Superior. When I camp, I use a tent and cook all of the meals over a fire! I have several favorite hiking sites. Most of my favorites can be found in the state of Washington. I have hiked on Mt. Rainer and have climbed to the top of Mt. St. Helens (both are old volcanoes!).
When I am not doing the hobbies that I talked about above, I spend time with my family and friends. Most of my family and friends live in the Eau Claire area. However, I do have some family and friends that live several miles away and even some that live in other states!
Some of you might be interested in knowing what my favorite sports teams are. I will share them with you now.
I also like watching golf and tennis. I play basketball, tennis, and golf from time-to-time.
I will share with you one of the craziest things that I have ever done. It is called skydiving! When you skydive, you jump out of an airplane when it is in the sky. You might think that is crazy...that's because it is! However, every time you sky dive, you have a parachute that opens up to safely return you to the ground. It was fun and exciting but I don't know if I would ever do it again!
